Welcome to the 60's!

Hi there:
Just a quick note to let you all know that in the last two months both Gladys and I have moved into the 60's. On October 16 I became the 5th member of the Stacey 60's Club joining Pat, Lucy, Junior and Kevin while on November 29 Gladys became the 2nd member of the Brennan 60's Club joining her sister Mary. We were both surprised a day or two early with a cake as well as a little celebration.
Below is a photo of the young 60 year olds along with their cakes. Joining Gladys in the photo is her niece Karen to her right along with young friend Mackenzie.
Thanks to all the members of the Staceys and Brennan who came along to celebrate.

Cheers,
Barry

Adam Runs Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon

Hi there:
Congratulations to Adam Stacey of Moncton, NB who is currently in London, ON on his fine effort in the Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon on October 14.
He finished the half marathon race in a personal best time of 1:09:28 to finish in 3rd place among a field of 9662 runners. Way to go young man!
By the way a half marathon is just over 13 miles or 21 kilometres.
You may remember that Adam finished second in the 2008 Telly 10 mile race and I have been trying to convince him to come back and try again. From this race it looks like he may be in the shape needed to win that race. Hey, buddy all your family here in Newfoundland are hoping that you do include the Telly 10 in your itinerary for 2013.
Below are a couple of photos submitted by his proud mom, Diane.

Matt and Christina's Wedding

Hi there:
Congratulations to Matt and Christina,  Mr. and Mrs. Stacey, who were married on Saturday October 6 at Parkdale United Church in Ottawa, Ontario. We wish them all the best as they begin their married life together. They were surrounded by family and friends as they were wed by their friend Anthony who is shown in one of the photos below with Matt and Christina.
There are just a few photos there now that were passed along to me but there will be more to come once they come back from the photographer. One of the photos shows Matt and Christina with her friend, Ava, whom she taught in Grade 1 and is in Christina's class again this year.

Bell Island Trip

Hey there:
Just a quick note to show you a few photos Gladys and I took while on a trip to Bell Island recently.  For those of you who don't know Bell Island is a small island in Conception Bay which is near St. John's. You have to take a 20 minute ferry ride to get there and it is a small island about 9 km by 3 km. It is a small town of about 2 or 3,000 people and was known for its iron mines which closed in the late 1960's. You can take a trip around the island as well as a tour on one of the iron mines which is pretty fascinating. The tour will take you down 650 feet underground at an angle of about 10 degrees. The tour guide will tell you how they extracted the iron ore from the ground as well as give you an indepth look at how a miner worked in the 1940's. Iron ore was a treasured commodity during the World War II and Bell Island was at the forefront of iron mining. I'm sure it is a little different than Red Lake Janice.

As well we spent the night at a little hotel called Atlantica in Portugal Cove overlooking Bell Island and went to dinner at their restaurant.  Here are a few photos of our trip.

Cheers,
Barry

Marystown August 2012

Hey there:
Once again I am trying to catch up on a summer of fun with some photos taken during that time. This next section deals with a trip home to Marystown this past August by Cheryl, Greg, Sarah and Chelsea.  They were here for 10 days and during that time had a wonderful time visiting as the weather was great for the whole time.
Some of the things they took part in or did was a day excursion to St. Pierre, a day blueberry picking on the Bucks near Garnish, a screeching ceremony, motorcycle riding, swimming in Red Harbour River as well as spending a whole day in and around Dildo, Newfoundland.
The following are some photos taken during that time.

Enjoy.
