Cheryl and Nicole's Visit to Marystown

Hi all:

Cheryl came home for a visit from August 20-29 and her friend, Nicole Frew, from Toronto came to visit Newfoundland for the first time. They arrived in St. John's on Friday night, went to dinner and of course, then to George Street which is a must visit for any newcomer to the Rock. After listening to some traditional Newfie music at O'Rielly's, they took in the downtown area on Saturday morning and afternoon. Gladys had to work Saturday so when she was finished we drove to town and met the girls for dinner at Atlantica Restaurant in St. Phillips. On Sunday morning we took in the sights of St. John's, had fish and chips in St. Phillips and took in a tour boat ride searching for whales. We did see a couple of humpbacks and Gladys did get two great photos which are included below. In the afternoon we visited the Basilica, signed the book at Government House, and visited the Newman Wine Vaults. Sunday evening we went to dinner and all four of us went to O'Rielly's on Sunday night.

We came back to Marystown on Monday after taking a side trip to Dildo for lunch. We toured the Boot for the rest of the week except Wednesday when we took a day excursion to St. Pierre. I have included some photos of the colourful houses, narrow streets, and graveyard over there. One photo also shows some capstans - which are used to pull up small boats. Most of the Stacey's should be familiar with those having grown up in Lamaline. On our return from St. Pierre we drove to Lamaline to have a look and take some photos. You can see a few there taken on the Meadow with Green Island and Allan's Island in the background. We also had a short visit with Bernie and Ron while there. By the end of the week we had looked at most every little town on the Peninsula from Rock Harbour to Allan's Island.

Cheryl came at this time as the Brennan's were celebrating Mrs. Brennan's 80th birthday and as you can see from a photo there she hasn't changed much over the years. She is still doing well.

On their last night in Marystown, we had a little Screech-in party here at our house for Nicole and I will post some photos from that in a separate section. We drove them back to St. John's on Sunday and they flew back to TO early Monday morning.

A great time was had by all.

Enjoy!

Brian, Josie and Julie in Marystown

Hey there:
Brian, Josie and Julie visited the Boot from August 10-18 and while here took in some of the Come Home Year Celebrations in Lord's Cove and Lawn. A couple of Josie's brothers were home for that too. From all accounts they had a great time. However, I don't have any photos from them of the celebrations. I do, however, have a few photos that we took here at my place and at Joan's with Mom.
I think they had their fill of good old Newfie grub and Josie tells me she put on 8 pounds while here on the Rock! Oops! Maybe I'll get in trouble for saying that. As you can see from the photos they all look great.

Enjoy.

Gerard & Kathy in B. C. to see Aaron and Ryan

Hi again:
Just a note to show some photos of Gerard and Kathy's visit to Victoria, B.C. in August to visit with Aaron and Ryan. From all reports they had a great time, capped off by Gerard celebrating his 50th birthday on August 26 by having dinner with his two boys, er, I mean men. They kind of dwarf Gerard in the first photo. Both you guys look great.
They sent along some photos of their trip including one taken with some friends in Powell River as well as a couple showing some of the huge trees that B. C. is famous for.
I would be remiss here if I didn't extend belated 40th birthday greetings to Kathy whose birthday was earlier this summer. Way to go girl! You look great.
Thanks for the photos.
Cheers.

Leo's Photos

Hi there:

Below are a few photos Leo sent after he returned to Medicine Hat a couple of weeks ago. In the first you can see Josh with one of the codfish he caught during the food fishery this summer. He was out with his father, two uncles and cousin down in St. Bernard's. In the second photo like the true Newfoundland fisherman, he is celebrating his catch with a cool one. The next two photos are of Gladys and I with Emma while there is one of some capelin which Boyd dried this summer. The last two are of Leo after a night of partying with the Shea's and one of Tracey and Emma.

Enjoy. I will update this post when I receive some more of Leo's great photos.

Lucy and Josh's Birthday's

Hi there:

Joshua, Tracey and Leo's son celebrated his 11th birthday on Aug 4 while Lucy celebrated her ( Not allow to say the number) birthday too. Therese, Bernadette and Boyd's daughter, will celebrate her 26th on Aug 8.

We had a little get together on Joan's with Tracey doing the cooking for a good old fashioned cold plate. Which I have to admit she did a great job. Supper was great.

For dessert we had birthday cake, Josh's and Lucy's, but also Emma got in on the act too. So there was lots of cake to go around.

I took some photos for you all to see. In one photo there are 4 generations of Stacey's - Mom, Joan, Tracey and Joshua. Enjoy them.

We'll talk soon.

Regards,
Barry

Renovations on Joan's House

Hi all:

Just a note to update on what's been happening here in Marystown over the past couple of weeks. Kevin and Diane came to visit for a week with the intention of carpenter Kev leading the way in doing some renovations to Joan's house - mainly some painting and laying of some floating floor. So with the help of myself, Pat, Terry King, Boyd, mom, Evelyn and all it turned out pretty good. I do not have any after photos but I do have some during so I'll post them for you to see. I'll get some after shots soon.

As you can see there were some bosses and a supervisor too! You don't see me in too many of the photos but if you look closely and see some green painter's tape. That was my department so I did help out somewhat.

Hope all is well with you all and that the summer is treating you great.
Cheers
Barry
