Hi to all the Fathers out there:
Just a note to wish all you Dad's a very Happy Father's Day.
Things are good here in Marystown. The weather has been absolutely phenomenal here lately with temperatures in the mid to high 20's - kind of Ontario like weather in June. We are actually crying out for a drop of rain. Who would have thunk it, for the 20th of June!!!
I had a early Father's Day gift from Cheryl. It was a once in a lifetime trip for me. I got a call last Wednesday, June 11 at 3:00pm to see if I would fly up to Toronto and go to Detroit with her and a couple of friends to watch Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals between Detroit and Pittsburgh. It didn't take long to make up my mind. I flew to Toronto on Thursday evening and we drove to Detroit for Friday's game. Cheryl's friend and co-worker Don Waters drove us along with Cheryl's friend and former co-worker Nicole Frew to the game.
Being a hockey fan, I really enjoyed being there to see the Stanley Cup being presented even though my team wasn't playing. I would have wished that the Red Wings had won to see the excitment of the hometown fans plus the fact that a Newfoundlander, Dan Cleary had a chance to win his second cup. But I got to see and enjoy a good bunch of young hockey players win the Cup for the first time. We stayed around for almost two hours after the game to soak in the on ice celebrations and we took some photos. I have included some of them below. Some have Dan Cleary of Harbour Grace, NL (#11) in them plus there are some of the Penguins celebrating. I also took a shot of a couple of Newfies from Hant's Harbour (in the Habs jerseys) that I met there. They live in Sarnia and were having a good time. There is also one of me and Cheryl taken overlooking the St. Claire River.
It was a very memorable Father's Day treat for me. Plus I stayed in Toronto and Cheryl and I got to visit and have lunch at the Mandarin in Rexdale on Sunday with Pat and Evelyn, Lucy, Junior and Nora, Kevin, Josie and Julie as well as Bob. We then dropped by Junior and Nora's for a visit and saw Christopher too. Unfortunately I blew the battery on my camera at the hockey game and Cheryl forgot to take hers so I don't have a photo to share of the visit. They are all looking good and we had an enjoyable meal.
As for summer plans, Cheryl is coming for a visit from July 3-10 and Junior and Nora are coming from July 25-Aug 11 while Gladys and I are going to Toronto from Aug 11-29. If any of you guys have plans for the summer please forward them along. If you are coming this way we would love to see you. If not we still love to hear of any vacation plans.
Sorry I haven't updated in a long time and I won't make any excuses. I will try to be a little more diligent in the future.
Cheers and stay in touch.
Barry
