Greg's Tour of St. John's Jan. 2

Hi there:
During Christmas Cheryl's boyfriend, Greg, came from Ontario for a visit. He arrived in St. John's on December 28 and they left for Toronto on January 3. In that time he spent most time in Marystown helping us with Christmas and New Year festivities. Along with that we also did a screech-in for Greg which we did on New Year's Eve. I have posted some photos of these events below which you can all take a look at.
In this post I have included some photos of our day spent in St. John's on Jan. 2. There are photos taken around St. John's as well as some of George Street. How could one come to St. John's and not experience George Street. After dinner at a downtown restaurant called Bianca's we headed to O'Rielly's on Georger St where the Irish Descendants were providing the music. They are a well know local band who plays Irish and Newfoundland music. We throughly enjoyed the evening and early morning. As well we visited Gladys's first cousin Eddie and his wife Rita in Torbay and there are a couple of photos of them included. Btw Gladys's favorite photo is one she took of Chery's legs with the Narrows to St. John's Harbour in the background.
Any questions on any of the photos please drop me a line.
Hope all is well and you all have a very happy and prosperous 2011.
Enjoy!
Regards
Barry

Greg's Screech-in

Hi everyone:
As you know whenever someone comes to our province for the first time we have to screech him in so that he can become an honorary Newfoundlander.
The very sanctimonious ceremony includes doing each of the following tasks:
1. Sing like a Newfie: one verse of I'se d'Boy
2. Talk like a Newfie: answer a simple question in Newfanese
3. Eat like a Newfie: eat some Newfie steak - baloney
4. Drink like a Newfie: drink some of our famous screech
5. Dubbed on both shoulders with an oar
6. Presented with Honorary Certificate.
We can say that Greg passed all requirements, however, he did struggle with the talking section of the ceremony but was given a passing grade by the majority of those present.
The video evidence is pictured below and you can see from the photographs that the yellow sou'wester played a big part in the ceremony. As you can tell he was quite taken with it and I'm sure he will use it when he goes sailing this summer on Lake Ontario.
Also you can see from the last three photos in this post that a drink of screech or other liquor will make one do things they don't usually do. Notice our two mothers with drinks in hand, eh!! As well after the ceremony others wanted their photo taken with King Cod's brother Tom!!
Do enjoy!
Cheers
Barry

New Year's Eve at the Stacey's Marystown

Happy New Year!
It has become somewhat of a tradition to hold a get together at our house on New Year's Eve. It is usually Cheryl's last or second last night home so it's much easier for all to come to visit us here than for us to try and get around to each house. As well our deck provides a great view of Marystown and all the fireworks that ring in the new year.
All of our families are invited and usually many show up. Including this year mom, Bernadette, Boyd, Therese and her boyfriend Neil. From Glayds's family we had her mother, Annie, her brother Mike and his wife Lois, her sister Marg and husband Pad, brothers Ed and Hughie, brother Terry and his children Terri and Devon, her brother Jim, his wife Charmaine and children Seamus and Owen as well as her sister Penny, husband Linden and children Kevin and Karen. Throwin ourselves and we had quite a large group with lots of food, drink and laughs.
The night was a great one with lots of chatter and a screechin that I will include in a post by itself. All in all a great time that finished some time early in the am.
Enjoy the photos. If you have any questions about the photos drop me a line. All the children except Owen made it to midnight and there is one photo of Karen which was taken about 12:30am. She made the fireworks though!
Enjoy!
