Just a note to fill you in what has been happening in Marystown the past month. It seemed like that winter wasn't going to come once again this year at we approached the last week of January but lo and behold once we got our first storm about Jan 20, it hasn't let up since. I am so sick of clearing away the driveway from storm after storm. I don't think since that time there has been a day that I haven't had to clear it at least once.
Last night we were supposed to have have 5 cm of snow and then change to rain. Well, once I looked out this morning just before 7:00am I couldn't believe it. We had gotten much more snow than we were supposed to get - I'm sure we had about 20cm. All schools and colleges are closed for the day. The same is true for most of the island, however, here it has been raining since 8:00am. It is suppose to rain all day and then back to freezing overnight. Should be slippery tomorrow.
I haven't heard from Pat in a week but I guess he is quite busy with snow clearing these days as there is so much falling that there is nowhere to push it. People are complaining about the Town Council coming by and filling in their driveways once they have them shovelled but there is nowhere to put it. Brutal! Hopefully the worst is over but it is still only Feb. 15. Ah! Well. Grin and bear it. When talking to someone the other day and complaining about the snow he told me about the Newfie who was up in heaven. He wanted to come home!! :-) I guess we have it pretty good here, eh!
I took some photos of the snow around our house here as well as a few one day while I was on a walk to show you what is on the roads.
Other than the snow everybody is doing fine here. Boyd and Bernadette aren't working right now as the trawlermen have gone on strike so there is no fish to process. There are some talks so hopefully it will be over soon.
I am not working this winter so other than shovelling snow I am not up to too much. The last photo shows what I did from Christmas until February 1. These are the books that I read and you can see where my interest lies. They were all quite good reading too. Next to the books is Gladys's Kobo book reader which Cheryl gave her. I am not using that as I've read two books from there - neither sports related though!!
Cheers. Hope everyone is doing well.
Barry
