Montreal Trip January 13 - 16, 2016

Hey there:
Cheryl  had to go to Montreal for work on Thursday & Friday so Gladys and I went along for the trip too. We flew in from Toronto on Wednesday and flew back home on Saturday evening. It was Gladys's first visit to Montreal and I hadn't been there in over 20 years. Cheryl visit there lots of times with work. The last time I was there was to see a hockey game at the old Montreal Forum which was closed in 1996.

We arrived around 5:00 pm on Wednesday and stayed the first two night as Hotel Le Germain which was near work for Cheryl. On Friday night we moved to the Hotel Nelligan on St. Paul Street in Old Montreal. Even though the weather was very cool we had a great time. We dressed well and walked around the city in the daytime and in the evening.

On Wednesday evening we went to dinner at an Italian restaurant which was very busy but had great food. On Thursday evening we went to the Peel Pub for dinner prior to Cheryl and I attending the Montreal - Chicago hockey game. Gladys took the evening off and relaxed at the hotel. On Friday night we went to dinner at the restaurant on Rue St. Paul in old Montreal. After dinner on Friday night we walked around Old Montreal for an hour in the cool weather.

On Thursday Gladys and I walked to St. Joseph's Oratory on Mont Royal. It was quite the jaunt of over 4 km and we walked halfway back to the hotel before we took a taxi the rest of the way. On Friday we visited the Notre Dame Basilica and had a tour of the very beautiful church. We attended 12:15 mass at both churches - the first day was in English while the second day was in French.

There are some photos of our excursions in some of the previous blog entries while this one shows some photos of our walk around Old Montreal as well as the waterfront. I have tried to put a little note on each one.

I have been to Montreal on 3 occasions and all have been in the wintertime. The other two trips were to see hockey games while this one involved some touristy things as well as walking around the old city. Now I think it would be a great place to visit in a warmer time of the year as there are so many sights to see including the buildings, Mont Royal which are harder to get to in the winter time especially since it is usually cold there during the winter.

    Do enjoy looking at them.
Cheers
Barry
